Track
Stars of Tomorrow is a developmental athletic program
for inner-city youth. Our purpose is to support and
encourage both recreational and competitive Track and
Field events for financially disadvantage children of
all ages, genders, and ethnic groups. Our program will
help inner-city youth use Track and Field as a tool
grow in all aspects of self. Through the unlimited possibilities
available in Track and Field our program will enable
these youth to reach their athletic ability and pursue
higher goals. The youth will have the opportunity to
accomplish their dreams that they may not otherwise
be able to do without the assistance of our program.
Through the proper guidance and necessary resources,
Track Stars of Tomorrow will enable the youth to strive
for success and equip them to become responsible adults.
The children of today will be provided with a brighter
light of tomorrow.
Goals
|
 |
We
believe that through the involvement of Track &
Field this is the healthiest and most positive option
for helping young adults become responsible for the
way they think, feel, and act in their many life decisions.
Furthermore, we believe that youth athletics tap into
the best opportunity that America can provide for the
adults of tomorrow. When directed effectively, athletics
show our youth how to:
· Maximize positive potential
· Work towards effectively setting and achieving
their goals that are useful of their time, ..energy
and focus.
· Gain an understanding of accomplishment, self-esteem,
and leadership skills.
· Obtain a personal value of excellence.
The
Program
The program was started because there is a mandatory
need toward helping and supporting youth and young adult
athletes in Track and Field. There is not one program
that caters to Track and Field athletes in the Bay Area.
The curriculum is year round and it will target low
income disadvantaged children, at risk teenagers and
minorities in the inner-cities. The program will be
comprised of roughly 75 youths ages ranging from
10 – 21.
The Track Stars of Tomorrow will provide education through
sports, discipline, hard work, goal achieving and mentoring.
We believe this program will be a positive vehicle that
helps drive youth to their dreams, goals and success.
This program will be reaching out to the youth and allowing
them to know that we will fight for them through love
and dedication by helping them reach their goals.
Nonetheless, before an athlete reaps the benefits of
the program they will be required to go through the
clinic. This program will be broken down into two components.
The components are the clinic and the benefits.
The
Clinic
The clinic is made up of reliable coaches, dedicated
parents and hardworking volunteers. Each designated
component will have a particular assignment. The coaches
responsibilities will be to train each athlete to the
best of his or hers ability. Each coach will teach and
show the athletes the technical drills necessary for
running competitively. They will also be responsible
for organizing a weight training program for each athlete.
Additionally, the coaches will schedule a variety of
track meets for each athlete. The coaches will be responsible
for ensuring each athlete has appropriate transportation
to meets.
In addition to the coaches participation the parents
will also play an important role in the clinic. Their
roles will consist of weekly participation as it relates
to their child and ensuring that their child is following
the rules and regulations of the program. Each parent
will also be responsible for helping the children get
to the track practices and meets on time. Most of all,
we will encourage the parents to provide these youth
with as much mental support as needed, especially when
a child is injured or has lost a race. We will request
that they not only encourage their own child to do their
best, but other children as well because each child
is important.
Beside the coaches and parents there will be hard working
volunteers involved in this program that will be responsible
for assisting the coaches and the parents meet the listed
goals. They will reconnoiter the site, and know where
to find necessary facilities needed for the athletes
(i.e. tracks, grass fields, equipment, trainers available,
the bathrooms, and water fountains). The volunteers
will obtain the necessary equipment needed for the athletes
and be responsible for their maintenance. Furthermore,
they will assist in educating the parents and athletes
in the importance of nutrition (i.e. proper intake of
vitamins, body weight and consumption of water, etc.)
Last but not least, the use of encouraging words will
be required to be present at all times.
